Tiger Orchid or Orkid Harimau Malaysia

Tiger Orchid or Orkid Harimau Malaysia is the largest and one of the rare flowering species found throughout Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Having being told tales that someone grew one for 10 years and it never did flower once, gave me a smile when the species I bought many years ago and grew for two years eventually flowered. Not only once, but twice! This Giant Orchid is also called Grammatophyllum speciosu and is found in mainly Southeast Asia.

The picture above was taken in Sabah Borneo at the Rainforest Discovery Center in Sandakan. They have a good bush of the Orkid Harimau there so if you visit that area, do pay the RDC a visit. I also visited Berjaya Hills Resort in 2009 and managed to take a picture of a very large tiger orchid bush with many flowers. There must have been at least 50 stalks in that bunch. Apart from the one I have growing in my mothers house, I am yet to buy another Tiger Orchid or Orkid Harimau in Malaysia.
